Primary and Secondary Education in Cambodia
Currently a 12-year system of general education is in effect, with children starting school at age 6.
- Primary Education is 6 years (ages 6-11) Grades 1-6.
- Lower Secondary Education is 3 years (ages 12-14) Grades 7-9. Culminates in the Certificate of Completion (Diplôme)
- Upper Secondary Education is 3 years (ages 15-17) Grades 10-12. Culminates in the Baccalaureate (Baccalauréat).
Academic year begins in November. Education is conducted in Khmer.
The Department of Education under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is responsible for oversight of primary and secondary education.
