Overview of the Venezuelan Education System

Venezuela operates a 12-year system of education. Pre-school education is the first compulsory stage, beginning at age 5. The Ministry of Education is responsible for implementing education policy and regulations. The academic year begins in mid-September and ends in late June or early July, lasting approximately 38 weeks across two semesters. Schools operate five days a week (Monday through Friday) for 198 days per year. Spanish is the language of instruction throughout all levels.

Note: Venezuela's education system was reorganized in 2009. Details for both the pre-2009 and post-2009 structures are provided below.

University Education

Venezuela has both public and private universities. Bachelor's degrees (Licenciatura) typically take 4–5 years. Professional degrees in medicine, engineering, and law take 5–6 years. Master's degrees are 2 years. Note: due to Venezuela's ongoing political and economic situation, verification of credentials from Venezuelan institutions has become more complex. Evaluation World may require additional documentation to verify credentials.
